How to Stay Hydrated

Staying hydrated is important at any time of the year, not just during the summer when it is hot outside. Drinking water makes you feel and look better as it helps hydrate your skin and muscles. Sugary or caffeinated beverages may taste good, but they do not offer as many health benefits as water does. It’s important to drink these beverages in moderation while staying mindful of how much water you’re drinking. Here are a few different ways you can stay hydrated and healthy.

 

Drink water while exercising

Not only should you drink water while you are working out, but you should also drink water before and after exercising. Drink water before and during your workout to remain hydrated while sweating. You should also drink plenty of water afterwards in order to replace the water you lost while working out. If you plan on working out early in the morning, be sure to drink water the night before so you are hydrated when you wake up.

 

Drink water before you are thirsty

If you’re thirsty, you’re already dehydrated. Drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated and to avoid the side effects of dehydration. A few signs that you are dehydrated include a headache, chapped lips, and fatigue.

 

Carry a refillable water bottle with you

Carrying a reusable water bottle is an easy way to ensure that you can drink enough water throughout the day. Fill it up before you leave the house and refill it as needed while you’re on the go! Reusable bottles are inexpensive and better for the environment than single use bottles.

 

Find alternative sources in your diet

Drinking water isn’t the only way to stay hydrated. Many of the foods you eat every day contain water and hydrate you as well. Common alternative sources of water include watermelons, soup, fruit juice, chicken breast, Jell-O, smoothies, and sports drinks.
