Self-Care Tips That Will Brighten Your Day
As life gets busy and stressful, it is increasingly important to hit the pause button and practice some self-care. Self-care can mean many different things to different people, but generally, self-care is any positive activity or mindset that helps support your emotional balance or mental health. Because the definition for self-care is so broad, there are countless ways to practice it. Here are a few simple self-care tips for giving yourself the break you deserve.
Practice positive self-talk
It hurts when other people say negative things about us, so why do we talk that way to ourselves? Be kind to yourself and don’t be too harsh when you make a mistake. Acknowledging your accomplishments is equally important. Stay positive as often as you can and celebrate all of your victories.
Hitting the snooze button may actually be justifiable in the name of self-care! If you feel like you need a few extra minutes of sleep and you can afford to do it, then do it! Allowing yourself to rest when you need to is a simple way to practice self-care and to boost your emotional balance.
Take a bath
Enjoy a spa day at home and take a relaxing bath with a new bath bomb! Do you prefer taking showers instead of baths? Take a calming shower and exfoliate your skin with a body scrub. Find something that might make washing up more fun than usual and take the time to relax your body and clear your mind.
Get a houseplant
Growing houseplants can be fun and it provides a routine. If you don’t have a green thumb, find the easiest plant to grow in your climate and pick one up from a nursery. Choosing a plant that is easy to grow will help you be more successful in keeping it alive and should provide a sense of accomplishment.
Do something fun
Find a fun activity to do every day or mix it up! Make time to watch videos of cute animals, listen to your favorite songs, or anything else that makes you happy! It’s up to you to decide what will brighten your day and your options are endless.
Take a break from screens
Our phones and computers connect us to the world but constant exposure to media can be a great source of stress. Take time to unplug and focus on the present moment. This could be a great time to think about the positive things that happened during your day or the things in your life that you’re grateful for.
Take time to relax
Even if you don’t live a busy or particularly active life, it is always beneficial to do something calming. Stretching, doing yoga, or taking a walk are all great ways to clear your mind and be active. Other ways to unwind and re-energize include getting a massage or enjoying a Kozi wrap at home.
