The Importance of Good Posture and How to Achieve It
I’m sure one thing almost everyone has in common is that as kids we were frequently told to sit up straight. Why did we all experience this? Although it’s probably one of the last things you think of when considering which of your habits have the biggest impact on your health, having good posture is actually quite important! Being mindful of your posture and sitting or standing in the correct manner comes wither numerous health benefits
What Is Good Posture?
Having good posture will be different when you’re sitting from when you’re standing. When you sit down, having proper posture means keeping both or your shoulders at the same height. You also need to do the same with your hips and knees. You should keep your chin up and keep your head and feet facing straight ahead. When you are standing, your body weight should be evenly distributed on both feet. Your spine should not be too straight or curved too much.
Why Does Having Good Posture Matter?
Having good posture keeps your body healthy and helps ensure that your muscles are being used correctly. Here are a few different things maintaining proper posture does for your health:
- Helps blood flow properly
- Reduces stress on joints
- Keeps the abdomen straight, which helps improve digestion
- Improves the ability to breathe deeply
